Mr. Carrack sent these to his webmaster, who is a member of his own band. Also a link to a very nice news article/Carrack interview from Arizona posted by a fan in his "Guestbook", post#4124: http://www.azcentral.com/ent/music/articles/0831carrack31-CP.html

    And from Trini Schultz:

Ringo has posted two new videos on his website: http://ringostarr.com/update_frameset.html (need Quicktime to view videos)

He video taped himself in Mississippi, Dallas, Denver (on Aug. 27) and Lake Tahoe. He mentions he won't be doing any more updates till after L.A.'s show. He seemed to get a little emotional when he mentioned the realization that the tour was coming to an end. At whatever hotel he was staying at in Mississippi, his room had Beatle pics everywhere! and a grand piano next to his bed!! I really wish Ringo would use the flash when video taping indoors though. Too dark Ringo!!! lol! He's so funny.

    Update (8/8/03)
  • Added more reviews from Westbury Music Fair, PNC Arts Center and Atlantic City.
  • From Patti Murawski:

    Hi Steve,

Some venues on the RS tour have been fussy about cameras, and some haven't. You just have to play it by ear. If you aren't local to the venue, asking other fans at the venue before the show may get you that info.

The shows I went to, three venues were sending people back to their cars to unload their cameras, while others weren't. One casino was very adamant about this and searching bags, while in Atlantic City they didn't search much at all; most places were just doing a cursory search and asking questions.

If you are planning to bring flowers or balloons and such, you might want to call ahead, too. At the PNC in NJ they were taking balloons off people, while in Easton they alllowed it. At Westbury, they wouldn't allow flower bouquets in the door; patrons were told to put them in their cars or leave them outside the theatre.

The same goes too when allowing people to come down front. It was allowed in Boston, Atlantic City and the PNC, but not Easton and Westbury, etc.

Both Colin Hay and Sheila did some PR in the NYC area during the week of the show. Colin was on the local WB morning show, while Sheila appeared on Wayne Brady's talk show.

New item in the merchandise that they didn't have earlier (think they added it at the PNC or AC, not sure which, I had not seen it at the other shows) is a silver metal star pin (tack back) embossed with "Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band" that goes for $10.

    Update (8/7/03)

  • Added first reviews from Westbury Music Fair and an additional review from Mohegan Sun.
  • Several people have mentioned to us that a flyer was available at the Westbury Music Fair shows advertising a live CD is available from the Casino Rama shows. We're trying to get info directly from David Fishof on how to order so that we can post the information here. (Thanks to Edward Fields, Mike Rapsis and Bill Coffran.)

    Update (8/5/03)

  • Added another review of the PNC Arts Center show.

    Update (8/5/03)

  • Added a short report about a guest star at the PNC Arts Center show and more reviews from Atlantic City Taj Mahal.
  • From Carl Savich:

    Steve,

The Meijer store chain in Michigan has put up a display for the Ringo Starr 2003 Tour Contest. The display is about 6 feet in height with a color photo of Ringo Starr and details about the contest and official rules. Four winners will be chosen who will meet Ringo Starr, attend the Las Vegas All-Starr concert on August 30, and will attend the sound check. There is a slot where the contest entry is placed. The display is in the music section of the store. Nabisco is apparently one of the sponsors as the name appears on the display. This is a pretty impressive promotion. Ringo Starr will be playing the DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston (north of Detroit) on Thursday, August 7, and Grand Rapids on Friday, August 8. Ringo Starr last played in Clarkston in 2000 when the venue was known as Pine Knob. The Sunday Detroit Free Press/Detroit News had a photo of Ringo Starr and an announcement of the upcoming concert: "Ringo and friends play on." Ringo Starr is getting good promotion and exposure in Michigan for the tour.

As a side note, I agree with Tony Perkins in his interview with Ringo Starr that he should do other songs in his set list. OH MY MY was a huge hit that is not done in concert. WHAT GOES ON charted in 1966 as the B-side to NOWHERE MAN. MATCHBOX was a big Top 40 hit that Ringo Starr does not perform. GOODNIGHT from the White Album is another great choice. GOODNIGHT VIENNA, SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME, IF YOU GOT TROUBLE, A DOSE OF ROCK AND ROLL, and some of the other album cuts are also good choices.

    From Barbara Pazmino:

When they did the past week's list of guests in their commercial (last week we had.....) the local New York WB Morning News mentioned Colin Hay - so he did some promoting for the shows here then too. I haven't seen or heard of John or Sheila or Paul on any shows on their own to promote concerts here.

    Update (8/4/03)

  • Added two reviews of the Atlantic City Taj Mahal show.
  • ABC's Tony Perkins interviews Ringo on the ABC News.com site. (Thanks to Trini Schultz.)
  • Milwaukee Journal Sentinal: For Ringo, All-Starrs, the fun comes first
  • From Patti Murawski:

You will want to check Ringo's website for two new updates. In the one from July 30 he's wearing a Dark Horse tee shirt that's being sold on www.georgeharrison.com. The update was done the day after Radio City. The second update was done on August 1 the day of the GMA appearance.

I noticed that Ringo mentions that so far Boston was the best audience, and who am I to argue (actually, I agree with him...)

    Update (8/3/03)

  • Added Mohegan Sun fan review.
  • Newsday: All-Starr Hits: His and Theirs (Thanks to Kris Tash.)
  • Norwich Bulletin: Ringo and friends a delight: The former Beatle brought a great deal of nostalgia to the show with his All Starr Band

    Update (8/2/03)

  • Added fan review of Ringo "Good Morning America" taping at Bryant Park in New York City and another from Radio City Music Hall. From Stephen Petrica:

Hey Jude wrote: "It's sounding like the security is pretty tight at many of the venues, in terms of people trying to run to the stage to give something to Ringo, etc."

Actually, having attended the shows at both Radio City and the State Theater, Easton, I was struck that security on entering the halls was virtually non-existent in both venues. In the house, there were burly guys to intercept people approaching the stage (e.g., the kid with the Flat Stanley cut-out in New York and the lady with the flowers in Easton). They allowed photography, forbidding only flashes, and video or audio recording. Nevertheless, I already know of at least one audio recording made in Easton.

At one point during the Radio City show, a man strode down the aisle toward the stage, and it crossed my mind given the lax security it was entirely possible that anyone who wanted to could easily bring a gun in and rid the world of yet another Beatle. I wouldn't have minded security being a tad more stringent.

    And from Rick Holland:

This description is straight off Villa Montalvo's website. I would guess that the 1,150 refers to their fixed seating, but there are also general admission areas (terraced grass and stone bleachers?) which may put their capacity over 1,500. Maybe someone out there knows for sure. In the meantime, the State Theatre remains the smallest temperature-controlled venue on the tour!

This amphitheater is Montalvo's most intimate outdoor venue (only 1,150 seats). It offers you a chance to see your favorite performers up-close-and- personal. Sit in permanent theatre seats or terraced grass and stone bleachers. Either way, be assured every seat is a good one!

    And from Karen Dyson:

With all the talk about the smallest venue on Ringo's tour.....according to the venue website, Humphries By The Bay here in San Diego has a capacity of 1,295.....smaller still than what has been previously mentioned. Ringo and gang will be here 9/7, the last date of the tour.

  • Video clip of the GMA appearance at Ringo's website (thanks to Trini Schultz.)

    Update II (8/1/03)

  • Some comments from Hey Jude on the tour:

I thought I'd mention a few things in response to a few comments in recent reviews of Ringo's tour:

It's sounding like the security is pretty tight at many of the venues, in terms of people trying to run to the stage to give something to Ringo, etc. This happened at a show I saw in Concord, CA towards the end of the 2001 tour, and Ringo scolded the security just like it sounds like he's doing now. I can understand it from both points of view. It's likely the venues have tight security to begin with, and with the history of both John and George being confronted by "fans" in the past, venues probably figure Ringo would want even thicker security. But I can also understand that Ringo wants to interact with the fans still, and it always does seem like it's not some big guy that the security is tackling, it's a little girl or an older lady. In any event, hopefully Ringo will put two and two together and figure out that the venues seem to often react this way to fans running up to the stage. Perhaps Ringo's people should brief the security personnel.

One other thing: There is mention being made of the Easton, PA show being the smallest venue on the tour. But if it holds 1500 seats, it doesn't seem to be the smallest venue. According to the Villa Montalvo website, the Garden Theater venue at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA, where Ringo is scheduled to play on September 4th, has a capacity of only 1150 seats. I don't know if this is the smallest venue on the tour either, but it appears to be smaller than the Easton, PA venue (and the prices are higher for the Garden Theater show too, because it's a "Summer Gala" or some such thing.)

    Update (8/1/03)

  • Added Easton, Pa. fan reviews.
  • We've also added newspaper review links for each show at the bottom of each fan review page for that show. We'll do this for the rest of the tour.
  • NY Post review of Radio City show. (Thanks to Kris Tash.)
  • Reuters: Concert review: Ringo Starr and band

    Update (7/31/03)

  • Added fan review from Radio City Music Hall.
  • From Trina Yannicos:

    Steve,

Ringo had a press conference on July 29 in the afternoon at Radio City Music Hall before his concert that night. The press conference was held on the Radio City stage with Ringo and the All Starrs performing a sampling of songs from the concert tour. Each member sang "half" of a song. Ringo began by singing the first half of "With a Little Help". Then there was a Q & A with members of the press. One interesting note: Ringo said he asks Paul to play with him for every All-Starr tour but Paul's always busy. We'll have more info on the press conference in the next issue of Daytrippin' coming out in September.

  • From Trini Schultz:

Check out Ringo's latest video update posted July 30: http://ringostarr.com/update_frameset.html He's wearing George's Dark Horse t-shirt. and he films from his hotel window showing you the view of central park and tries to zoom in on the Dakota building. Talks about the shows he's done so far.

  • A reminder: Ringo will be taping an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" Friday morning at New York's Bryant Park. As Patti Murawski mentioned last night, the crowd will be across the street. The show starts at 7 a.m., so be there early. (Thanks to Susan, too.)

    Update II (7/30/03)

  • Penn Live.com: They'll scream like it's 1964 over again
  • Morning Call: Ringo concert will make easy history, State says; Easton theater calmly prepares for former Beatle's performance (Thanks to Rick Holland.)

    Update (7/30/03)

  • Added fan review of Boston.
  • Ringo pix from Boston at Wire Image. (Thanks to Robert Gille.)
  • From Patti Murawski:

Just wanted to let you know, anyone contemplating going to see Ringo at the end of the week at the "free" concert for the ABC GMA appearance at Bryant Park should be advised that the audience is made to stay across the street from the performers...something to consider if anyone was thinking about coming into the city just for that.

(Thanks to Rosario Bersanelli and JM Oliviera.)

    Update (7/25/03)
  • From Carl Savich:

    Steve,

I was looking through a Meijer store advertisement and noticed an ad for a new Ringo Starr 2003 Tour Contest. The ad features a 2003 tour photo of Ringo Starr with this announcement:

2003 Ringo Starr & his All Starr Band
"Enter for a chance to meet Ringo Starr and see them perform in Las Vegas August 30, 2003
4 Grand Prize winners! See store for details."
Meijer is a large Michigan-based clothing and food chain. There is apparently some sort of tie-in arrangement with the Meijer store chain in Michigan. Starr will be playing two Michigan venues: Grand Rapids and Clarkston (outside of Detroit). I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else. (This is not to be confused with the Good Morning America contest earlier this year.)

    Update (7/19/03)

  • From Joeltle515:

The Ringo dates for Amarillo and the Mhegan Sn are on sale. For some reason, ticketmaster.com doesn't have them listed. You can visit the venues' websites which are: http://www.civicamarillo.com and http://www.mohegansun.com. Ringo is performing in the arena at Mohegan Sun. I hope the tix aren't sold out yet so everyone who doesn't know can obtain them.

    Update (7/4/03)

  • Ringo will be performing live on Aug. 1 on "Good Morning America" from New York's Bryant Park, 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue. (Thanks to Trini Schultz.)

    Update (6/30/03)

  • Ringo's gig at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas on August 30th is on sale now. (Thanks to Joeltle515.)

    Update (6/21/03)

  • Ringo and the All-Starrs' date at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colo. August 27th will go on sale June 21st. (Thanks to Joeltle515)

Update (6/9/03) Joeltle515 tells us Ringo's gig at the Horseshoe Casino in Robinsville, MS., will go on sale June 20th.

Update (6/4/03) Joeltle515 tells us tickets for the show at Darien Lake on July 26th will go on sale June 7th.

    Update (6/3/03)

  • A clarification from Joeltle515 on the L.A. early sale:

Please post on your site that the presale for Ringo's show at the Universal Amphitheater will begin June 3rd and ending June 8th via hob.com and the regular internet presale (possibly via ticketmaster.com) will start June 9th and ending June 13th. I have someone who is very confused with this who saw my post on your site on this subject and e-mailed me about it.

    Update (6/1/03)

  • Joeltle515 tells us the on-sale date for the Universal Amphitheater date in Los Angeles has been changed from June 1st to June 14th. He says, however, there will be an online pre-sale starting June 3rd and ending June 8th.

    Update (5/30/03)

  • Joeltle515 tells us tickets for Ringo's concert at the Sandia Casino Amphitheater in Albuquerque, N.M. go on sale Saturday.

    Update (5/22/03)

  • Joeltle515 tells us the Tahoe date (8/29) is now on sale.

    Update (5/16/03)

  • New date: Aug. 26, Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colo.
  • Plus this from Joeltle515:

Tix for the show @ DTE Energy Music Theater will go on sale Friday, May 16th. It seems also that www.ticketmaster.com has a listing for Ringo to play at the Phoenix Dodge theater on August 4th as well as the already announced date there for September 5th. It dosen't seem very likely that Ringo will play in Phoenix on August 4th since he has a show on that day at Westbury Music Fair.

Update (5/11/03) Joeltle515 alerted us that according to ringotour.com, Ringo and the All-Starr Band will make an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" Aug. 1st!

  • Joeltle515 also sent us on-sale dates for several tour dates:

Update (4/17/03) Joeltle515 let us know the Ringo tour website shows two new dates: Aug. 9 and Aug. 19 (see calendar above). Note the Aug. 19 date is a reschedule for a date we originally listed as Aug. 16.
  • Tickets for Ringo's Saratoga, CA., date go on sale Friday.

Update (4/11/03) Joeltle515 notes the Ringo tour website shows the Aug. 16 date as Manaffay Theater, St. Petersburg, Fla., rather than Florida Gulf Coast University.)

Update (4/8/03) Added shows for Aug. 7, 13 and 17, as taken from Ringo's tour website. (Thanks to Joeltle515.)

Update (3/28/03) The Saratoga, Ca., venue is the Garden Theater at Villa Montalvo. (For those outside the area, the Montalov Center for the Arts covers more than one concert venue.) Tickets are $75, $125, $175 and $300.

    Update (3/24/03)

  • From Patti Murawski:

The tickets for the August 4 and 5 shows at Westbury Music Fair went on sale Sunday, March 23 at 12:30 p.m. by box office or Ticketmaster phone sales only.

Although there was a link to Ticketmaster on the Westbury Music Fair's website, when one actually got into the ticket listings on Ticketmaster, when one clicked on the "Find Tickets" button next to the listing to purchase tickets (and this was still occuring while I was actually in the system on the phone and completing a transaction) the message came up "Sorry, but this event no longer exists in our database.")

This message is still coming up on the Ticketmaster website some four hours after tickets went on sale. Oddly, Ticketmaster only listed August 5 as a show date, when in fact, I was able to purchase tickets for both August 4 and August 5.

  • Fort Frances Times: Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band kicks off summer tour at Casino Rama

Update (3/14/03) Beatlefan's Bill King sent us a pack of official dates for the tour, which we've added to the table above. Note that two of the dates from Pollstar, which is not always accurate, are not listed in the dates Bill gave us. Bill did say more dates were to come. (Thanks again, Bill.)

Update (3/12/03) Pollstar lists three dates for Ringo's 2003 tour: Tue 08/05/03 Westbury, NY Westbury Music Fair Wed 08/06/03 Westbury, NY Westbury Music Fair and Sun 08/10/03 Detroit Lakes, MN Soo Pass Ranch. No word on sale dates yet. (Thanks to Maria Morriss and sgtpep87.)

Update (3/6/03) The 2003 Ringo tour website, though still a work in progress, is up and running. The band members for this year's edition have all been mentioned here previously, but the site makes it official: John Waite, bass; Paul Carrack, keyboard; Sheila E., percussion; Colin Hay, guitar; Mark Rivera, sax. No tour dates are listed, though the site says this year's jaunt will begin in July and continues through September. The site also has a "Starr Forum" where, it says, you can "chat with Ringo." (Thanks to Trini Schultz.)

Update (1/26/03) From Sylvia M. Giustina:

    Steve,

Friday's USA Today did a blurb on Eric Clapton's contribution to the album. They also report "Starr again with tour this summer with an "all-Starr" band, whose lineup will be announced in March."

Update (1/15/03) Beatlefan's Rick Glover sent us a note that Abbey Road on the River is sending out an email asking if Ringo and the All-Starrs should headline a date on the AROTR tour. The note adds an additional All-Starr that hasn't been mentioned before: Colin Hay of Men At Work.

(1/1/03) Gary Schultz's Ringo Starr website reports that Ringo's All-Starr Band tour in 2003 is expected to cover about 30 cities. Tentative band members, the site says, include John Waite and Paul Carrack, keyboardist from Mike and the Mechanics, Ace and Squeeze. Sheila E., who was such a wonderful part of the last band, and Mark Rivera are also expected to be in the group. (Thanks to Karen Pederson.)
