1958
Feb. 6: Paul McCartney introduces George Harrison to John Lennon. George joins the Quarrymen.
Midyear: The Quarrymen record their first acetate, a McCartney-Harrison song, "In Spite of All the Danger," and a cover of the Buddy Holly hit, "That’ll Be the Day." The disc was passed around among the group and stayed with member John Duff Lowe for over 20 years buried in a linen drawer until 1981 when McCartney and Lowe reached an agreement and Paul took possession of the disc. An excerpt from "That’ll Be the Day" is heard in a 1985 McCartney-narrated TV special on Buddy Holly.
August: The Quarrymen become the resident band at the Casbah Club, run by Mona Best, mother of Pete Best. In October, they become Johnny and the Moondogs.
